Ram Maya Tamang Sucess Story
Ram Maya's incredible status as a member of the family now is the result of her perseverance and commitment to farming. Ram Maya, a 40 year old women from Jarung, Hetauda 16 Makawanpur, Nepal, who owns 7 kattha of land in which only use 1 kattha of land for flower cultivation. Getting married at young age puts her on the route to earning money for the family's necessities along with her husband. Her laborious efforts and long hours in the field are insufficient to increase her income, as there is now the chance to cultivate off seasonal flowers. Integrated Village Development Service (IVDS), working with the local government, has implemented a flower cultivation program in the areas in an attempt to elevate the farm-oriented people to a certain status and alter the farming model, which has increased farmers' revenue. Although she has been growing crops like maize, millet, and some vegetables, which are probably similar to the other farmers in the area, her cultivation of flowers leads her to a source of money. Her only source of income is vegetable growing, thus she was rather concerned about the diminishing yield. Then, IVDS invites a professional flower farmer and trains a few farmers in flower growing, as there is a great market demand for marigold flowers. After receiving five days of instruction from our specialist and direction for the whole farming process, Ram Maya outperformed other farmers in terms of flower growth. When the marigold flower began to bloom, IVDS served as a bridge to help them get in touch with the flower dealer so they could sell the flowers and negotiate a better price. Since that time, she has made Npr 50,000 in just two months with no investments, and she claims that growing marigold flowers now will benefit farmer more than it will during Tihar, our major holiday known as the Festival of Lights, when marigold flowers are highly valued because people use them to decorate their homes for the occasion. Further she added “I got the opportunity for this kind of farming program which mark a significate impact in her life and her income and wishes to join in such kind of program in the near future.”
